Who are you? Tell us about yourself.
My name is letdwn, I also go by doris, doriswilldie, and syicidal. I make music and design clothes for my clothing brand “Kill Romance”. I also do some behind the scenes stuff for other artists.
How did you get started in music? What or who inspired you?
I started writing lyrics when I was in 7th grade. I always loved music and different genres, but I also loved writing, so I thought why not try it.
Eventually, in 8th grade I recorded a song about my crush. It was a very bad rap song that I recorded with my phone and TV speaker. I then uploaded it to SoundCloud and sent it to her which was probably not a smart move.
Then, in 9th grade I met a kid named Alex that made music. I asked him how he did it, and he said with his phone and I was really interested. I tried to record with my phone again, and it just didn’t sound good at all.
A few months later, I had gotten a laptop from my cousin. I remember downloading Audacity as soon as I got it, and trying to record stuff. I had a friend come over, and I recorded my first song in one take. I was using the laptop mic and it sounded so bad, but I still think to this day that everybody has to start somewhere.

You have an EP that you just released recently: LIFE IS FAST. Tell us about that. What’s the story behind it?
There are many reasons why I made ‘Life is Fast’, at the time I was going through so much stuff really fast all at once, from relationships with people, to friends, to drugs, decisions, everything. Kind of living reckless. So, I made ‘Life is Fast’ because I came to the realization that life will end soon. Why should I take things extra serious you know?
Instead of stressing about a girl or problems with people, I could be enjoying life and having fun. I usually don’t put out projects or if I have the thought of putting out one I’ll end up having second thoughts. But, ‘Life is Fast’ just felt right.
What’s one of your favorite songs you have out now?
One of my favorite songs I have out right now is ‘Lonely’. I had just gotten out of a relationship that was super toxic, and crazy and I needed to get my mind off it, and make a song about it.
A lot of people don’t know that the lyrics have kind of a hidden meaning, and a lot of people take the lyrics in a whole different manner, but everybody understands lyrics differently and I get that. I think I had the most fun making ‘Lonely’, it was just fun.
Plans for 2020? Any projects you’re working on?
In 2020, I hope to drop a project I have been working on called ‘Deadbeat Rockstar’. I have been working on it for a long time, almost a year and a half, and a lot of people are ready to hear it. I think it could be the project that gets me up there.
I also plan to drop more singles, and do some music videos and stuff with other artists. I will also drop more clothing for my clothing brand and try to expand it as much as I can.
I just got my homie to start making music, and I for sure see something in him that he wants it whatever “it” is. 2020 is going to be a great year, not just for me, but all of us.
If you could give someone advice who is just getting started making music, what would you tell them?
If I had to give advice I would say, “don’t ask for help”. I personally feel like if you ask for help constantly, and don’t try to figure it out by yourself then you’re just going to get more and more lazy, and it will translate to your music. Also, you learn way less when you have other people do it.
It took me about a year to figure out FL Studio just because there were so many things. If you need help look it up, or watch a video, or even try to do it yourself.
I would also tell them to focus on your music and craft before promoting because if you promote a bad song you are just wasting money. Make sure a bunch of people like it, and it is getting some kind of buzz. If you promote at the threshold, you will blow up.
